On May 3, the award for the third edition of the Ibn Luyun Prize will be presented at the Viana Palace in Córdoba, which on this occasion has gone to José Tito Rojo .

Born in Granada, he has a Doctor in Biological Sciences, and completed his Thesis on “Restoration in Landscape Architecture: methodological essay applied to Carmen de los Mártires and other Granada gardens of the 19th century.”

José Tito Rojo, currently retired, has been curator of the Botanical Garden of the University of Granada. He has also been coordinator of the garden area of the Master in Landscaping at the UGR and Member of the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Benetton Studi Richerce, of the International Scientific Committee of Cultural Landscapes of ICOMOS-IFLA, and President of the Scientific Committee of the European Garden Network Historical (Cultural Itinerary of Historical Gardens of the Council of Europe) from its foundation until 2021.

He has recently been named Full Academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Granada , and is the author of more than 100 publications on gardens and landscapes.

His main lines of research have been about the Gardens of Al-Andalus and their heritage, the historiography of the garden, and the origins of the modern garden in Spain.

He is the author and co-author of more than fifty garden creation and restoration projects in Spain, Italy and various Arab countries, twelve of them in gardens and landscapes declared Assets of Cultural Interest. Among them, the Patio de la Acequia del Generalife (2002) and Carmen de los Mártires (2001 and 2011) stand out.

He has received various awards for specific projects and his personal career, including that from the International Center for Heritage Conservation in the category “Restoration of Historic Gardens” (2011).

Ibn Luyun Prize

In the first edition , Mr. José Elías Bonells was awarded for his enormous contribution to Andalusian gardening and his career full of knowledge, articles, conferences and generosity for lovers of this profession so important for the health and quality of life of the people. citizens.

In the second edition, the award went to Mr. Ángel Enrique Salvo Tierra , a reference in knowledge and dissemination of the importance of green in cities. Their knowledge, work and dissemination of Gardening, urban design, urban green infrastructure and nature-based solutions have contributed enormously to public awareness and the professionalization of gardening.
