Description:
It is a tree that is found in the mountains of Andalusia and North Africa at more than 1000 m altitude. It grows slowly and lives for 100 to 200 years.
It is a tall conifer that reaches 2m at 10 years and 15m at maturity because this variety has a much shorter size. It has a conical and irregular shape, especially in young specimens, since over time it becomes somewhat flattened. It has a dark bluish gray color. The main branches appear from the base of the trunk and persist for a long time, and the young twigs are reddish-brown and hairless. With age, the trunk becomes free of branches in much of its height.

The roots are long, thick and shallow in rocky substrate soils. In loose and fresh soils they are abundantly branched and strongly anchored.

The leaves are persistent and remain on the tree for up to 15 years. Acicular short plump more or less pointed and pointed.

It flowers at the end of April-May and gives rise to cylindrical cones 10-15 cm long and 3-5 cm wide.

Culture:
It grows at an altitude of 1,000-2,000 metres, so it resists strong frosts and winds. It is capable of tolerating the second line of the sea, but the heat does not do well at all.

It is undoubtedly the best fir for calcareous soils, but it does not support salt. It needs a high degree of humidity and places with some shade or semi-shade do well.

Applications:
Tree widely used in city street alignments, in parks and gardens.

Its wood has been used for a long time and it has been planted for forestry purposes in the regions from which it originates. It has a high ornamental value.
