75% of the gardeners catalans have lost some of its maintenance work

The Gremi of Gardening has conducted a survey that shows an increase of the self-employed and micro-enterprises in the sector

The Gremi of Gardening of Catalonia has published the results of a survey conducted among its partners to know how they're affecting the COVID-19 and the restrictions of the state of alarm.

From the Catalan point out that "we have had a low level of affected due to the correct use of ppe to which we are already accustomed to and the fulfilment of the remaining health measures. Especially the first few days of the application of the decree of the state of alarm, and due to the confusion of the first decrees, orders, and interpretations was detected as a major stop maintenance and landscaping".

Many maintenance have been recovering with time, but up to 75% of the members surveyed have lost an important part of these jobs that moved to the billing is a decrease of 94%, "creating a strain on the treasury to an important part of the professional", pointing from the Gremi.


In relation to the economic measures such as ERTE, only a third of those surveyed have been asked by a part or all of the template. Lines of credit have been interested in the 25% of gardeners, but according to the entity, "unfortunately the abusive conditions of some banking organizations have led to many complaints". In addition, they emphasize "the discontent of the self-employed (78%) with the actions of governments during the alarm state. The feeling of our gardeners and window boxes is of abuse and neglect of the collective".

Increase the companies working for the administration


For another, this survey has served to do an radiography of the profession, and from the entity detailed that one of the conclusions of the report is that the number of self-employed and micro-enterprises has grown over the last few years, thus changing the structure of the sector. They point out that while in 2007 the self-employed and businesses with up to 10 workers were 74%, now it is about 82%.


"The majority of gardeners are dedicated to gardening private but you have to highlight the important increase of companies that are also dedicated to the public, possibly for the last public procurement rules and the competitive bidding for lots, which favors the incorporation of our type of companies to tender", explained from the Gremi.
